ChemVolt Global Plans ₹2,500 Crore Battery Plant in Madhya Pradesh, With 3,500 Jobs Expected
The proposed facility in Ratlam would manufacture lithium-ion cells for energy storage and electric mobility, with development planned in phases.
ChemVolt Global plans to invest ₹2,500 crore in a lithium-ion battery cell manufacturing facility at the Smart Industrial Township in Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh.
The project is expected to support approximately 3,500 direct and indirect jobs, according to October reporting and an investment update shared by MPIDC’s Ujjain regional office.
The proposal adds a battery manufacturing project to the region’s investment pipeline. Its potential customers include businesses developing electric vehicles and systems that store electricity for later use.
The investment and employment figures remain projections tied to the project’s implementation.

What the ₹2,500 Crore Investment Would Cover
ETAuto reported on 21 October 2026 that the proposed investment would fund factory construction, production equipment and supporting infrastructure.
The company has applied to the Madhya Pradesh Industrial Development Corporation, or MPIDC, for land allotment. The report said the industries department had started the allotment process, with further approvals to follow.
MPIDC executive director Rajesh Rathore told the publication that the project could create opportunities in manufacturing, engineering, technical operations and related services.
The two-phase approach means the facility would be developed progressively. The reviewed reports do not provide a detailed breakdown of spending between the phases.
What ChemVolt Global Plans to Manufacture
The Ratlam proposal covers lithium-ion cells for electric mobility and energy storage. Founder Kuldeep Gupta has also described plans to integrate battery energy storage system manufacturing at the facility.
This would connect production of the cells with the larger systems in which they are used. In commercial terms, the company is seeking to serve customers in both transport and power storage.
The reported product plans describe the intended output of the facility. The reviewed announcements do not establish commercial deliveries from Ratlam.
Why Battery Cells Matter
A battery cell is a basic unit that stores and releases electrical energy. Cells are combined into larger battery systems, with controls and other equipment helping them operate safely.
In an electric vehicle, the battery supplies energy to the motor. In a stationary storage installation, batteries hold electricity so it can be used when required.
For example, a solar project can charge batteries during daylight and supply stored energy later. This helps explain why battery manufacturers may serve power companies as well as vehicle makers.
Producing cells is therefore an important part of the manufacturing process behind complete batteries and storage systems.
Site Preparation and Approvals: What Has Been Reported
The public reports describe different stages of progress.
On 13 October, Gupta told pv magazine India that ground levelling had begun at the Ratlam site. He said the company was targeting the fourth quarter of FY2027 for commissioning its first 1 GWh line. A detailed schedule for the remaining capacity was not disclosed.
However, ETAuto’s 21 October report described land allotment and other approvals as pending.
These accounts leave the final administrative status unclear. Reported site preparation should not be treated as confirmation that all permissions are complete or that production has started.
The first-line commissioning date is a company target. The full planned capacity would require further equipment installation and commissioning.
What the Expected 3,500 Jobs Could Mean for Ratlam
The employment estimate includes both people working directly on the project and jobs supported through related businesses.
Direct employment could involve production, engineering, maintenance and factory operations. Indirect opportunities could arise through transport, equipment servicing, materials supply and other activities connected to the facility.
The announcements reviewed do not give a detailed split between these categories or a complete hiring timetable.
For Ratlam, the wider opportunity would depend on how much work reaches local businesses and workers. Supplier contracts, training and sustained factory activity would help determine the eventual economic benefit.
The projected employment figure should therefore be read as an expected outcome of development, rather than a count of jobs already created.
How the Plant Fits ChemVolt Global’s Business
ChemVolt Global describes its activities as covering energy project development, engineering and battery storage. Its published manufacturing plans connect cell production with the assembly of larger battery systems.
In a separate announcement dated 2 June 2026, the company said it had finalised a turnkey technology and equipment partner for the first phase of its 5 GWh gigafactory programme.
That statement described an initial 1 GWh line focused on 314 Ah lithium iron phosphate cells. It provides background to the company’s manufacturing ambitions, although the June announcement did not identify Ratlam as the location.
The business rationale is to connect several stages of production, from cells to finished storage equipment. Successful execution could give the company more control over supply and product integration.
The Next Milestones for the Project
For customers and suppliers, the next useful indicators will be clarity on approvals, installation of production equipment, commissioning and the start of qualified commercial output.
A domestic cell plant could offer another supply option for Indian battery and energy storage businesses. Its competitiveness would depend on product performance, manufacturing consistency, pricing and dependable delivery.
The Ratlam proposal establishes the scale of ChemVolt Global’s ambition. Its contribution to local employment and India’s battery industry will become clearer as the planned investment turns into operating capacity.
